Why?

Oh, how it poetic and exalted sounds! “Baseball is about history, its poets tell us. It is about continuity and about heirloom emotions. It's a golden thread that binds the generations together, one after another, in the face of an increasingly centrifugal and atomized world. So say baseball's poets, and because this is a baseball story, let's begin nearly a century ago”. It was written by CHARLES P. PIERCE several months ago in his article titled “Why Scott Boras is the best (and worst) thing to happen to baseball”. Really, why?

Today CNN reports that Alex Rodriguez has opted out of the final three years of his contract with the Yankees and will become a free agent, likely ending his four-year stay in New York.
Rodriguez's decision was first reported by Sports Illustrated's Web site on Sunday evening. According to the report, agent Scott Boras sent word of the opt-out in writing and left phone and text messages for general manager Brian Cashman on Sunday.
