It's interesting how look olimpic medals, who creates it? Olympism is not a system, it is a state of mind. It can permeate a wide variety of modes of expression and no single race or era can claim a monopoly of it. The olimpic medals represent these values of Olympism: friendship, honour and excellence in the respect for one’s opponent. So medal's particular design must ideally recall the spirit of loyalty that lodges in the heart of all sportsmen. Athletes in Ancient Greece used to receive a laurel wreath covered in gold as their reward for winning an event.

Gold Olimpic Medal, Sapporo 1972

Olympic medals must be at least 60 millimetres in diameter and at least three millimetres thick. Gold and silver medals must be made of 92.5 percent pure silver; the gold medal must be gilded with at least six grams of gold and the design of the medal is the responsibility of the host city's organising committee, with the approval of the IOC.

Usually each step of the process of creation of Olimpic Medals for the next Olimpic Games is keeping in secret. And it's no wonder because they do their work for those who create the Great Olimpic History.
